I Won!!! (NaNoWriMo)
I ended up committing and tonight, I "won". What does that mean? No, I don't get fancy prizes. And my story isn't any better than anyone else's. But, it means I managed to write 50,000 words of a story in 30 days. Really, less - 26 I think. I get some nice images to put on my site announcing myself as a winner and on their site, I get a pretty purple bar under my name identifying me as "completed".
Most importantly, I get that I was able to do it. I really didn't think I could. But I kept at it, had some encouragement along the way, and managed to start a decent story.
Start? Yes, I said start. If I gave you a list of the five major plot points in my story, I've only finished the first three. That means, as good as it feels to be done with NaNoWriMo, I'm not done writing yet. And that's the best thing I could've possibly taken from this experience.
So don't go looking for my story at Amazon. You won't find it there. Or anywhere but my harddrive. But I'm a very proud and happy chicky tonight!
People usually fail when they are on the verge of success. So give as much care to the end as to the beginning. -Lao-Tzu
