NC State Fair
Wednesday night, we managed to get to the fair around 5:30. We parked in the free parking at the RBC Center and walked across the street. It was a bit of a haul but not too bad.
We aren't big on rides. Or at least, I'm not big on rides that are thrown together quickly and very temporarily. So mostly we stuffed our faces and people-watched.
We always split orders of food so we could sample more of it. We started with a chili dog while we stood in line for our blooming onion. It was worth the wait because it was insanely fresh. We then got a cheese steak to go with it and sat on some stone tables down along the stream to eat them. Soooooo good. Then we wandered around for awhile before trying some apple fries. These were new to us and absolutely amazing. They slice the apples, batter and fry them, then serve them in a waffle cone dish, covered in cinnamon and powdered sugar. Best thing we ate, no debate there. We finished up with a funnel cake, slathered in chocolate syrup and generously dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect ending.
Mike played skee ball but didn't win anything. That's ok - we realized those things just end up abandoned in the guest room anyways.
People-watching was fun also. After my writing classes, I decided to approach the fair this year as an observation opportunity. I was 'aware' enough to make several index cards of notes when I got home so I'd call that a success!
To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kinda scary. I've wondered where this started, and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus and a clown killed my dad. -Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey
