Cruise Day 1: Sail Away
We went upstairs to the Windjammer which is their buffet-style dining option. The place was a mad house, full of people with plates piled high. We crammed ourselves and our carry-on bags into a tiny space at a bar and ate some underwhelming food.
By the time we finished eating, it was 1pm so we went to our stateroom - 4004. The room itself was actually larger than we expected though still not roomy. The bathroom was about as teensy as we had expected but it got the job done.
We wandered around the ship for awhile, found our assigned table in the dining room, and then went to a presentation by "The Chad" (the most annoying salesman EVER) about shopping in Nassau. We bought the book for $25 because we figured there were enough freebies in it to make it worthwhile. We then went to a "first time cruisers" meeting which was a total bust.
At 4pm, it was time for "muster" which is the safety drill. This was the most poorly organized experience we had on the entire ship. Everyone on the boat was required to attend at their "muster stations" on the 7th deck. We all had our life jackets on and our side of the boat was being pounded by the sun. It was hot, crowded, and very uncomfortable. The actual safety briefing was played over the PA system and difficult to understand. When they cut us all loose, it was a nightmare trying to get back to our room to drop off our jackets before sailing away at 5pm.
We didn't really participate in the sail away party but there was a lot of dancing. We found a spot where we could watch the terminal and Cocoa Beach while the ship finally took off from the dock. The sun was setting, the weather was perfect, and we were on our way!
Our dinner was the "late" seating which means 8:30. By 6pm, we were starved. We ordered room service and had a nice appetizer of cheese and fruit. By this time, the boat was rocking badly and we were both feeling woozy. We took a nap and some bonine to try to settle down before dinner. Since the bonine hadn't worked, I switched over to the homeopathic motion sickness medicine I had brought (it's made by Hyland's) and that worked much better.
By 8:30, we were both still feeling a bit miserable but we made our way to the dining room anyways. We met David and Amy, our dining partners for the week. Our table was set for six but the third couple never showed up. Their loss because we had a great time together during our dinners! The food was good and the service was awesome. Just don't express indecision between two desserts - you'll get them both!
Appetizer: We both had the Tuscan tomato soup. It was thick and awesome.Entree: I think we both ordered the prime rib, which was good. However, our server also brought out a stuffed chicken breast that was amazing.
Dessert: Mike's white chocolate fondue was more of a pudding than the fondue we expected. I had an apple tart that was good and we split a serving of Savarin which was a rum cake with banana cream. It was different but good!
After dinner, we went up to the deck for some fresh air. The boat was rocking so badly, the pool looked more like a wave pool.
Finally we were exhausted enough to go to sleep. Day 1, complete!
