Cruise Day 2: Coco Cay
Because Coco Cay is so tiny and there's not a dock large enough for cruise ships, the ships drop their anchor off the shore. Passengers are then taken to and from the island by smaller boats called "tenders". The process didn't take as long as we first feared and before we knew it, we were making our way across the island.
We booked an excursion for that morning - wave runners! After signing away all our legal rights, we watched a 10 minute safety video followed by further instruction from our guide. Mike drove our wave runner and I was his backseat drive, I mean passenger. We ran full throttle the entire time across the ocean. I've never seen water so beautiful as that - different amazing shades of blue and green. It's amazing how shallow the water is there - it's actually possible to walk from island to island sometimes. Periodically, the guide would stop and give us information about the area and marine life.
Just as Mike was getting comfortable driving, the excursion was over and we were back on solid ground. It was a lot of fun but I'll admit I was a nervous wreck for a lot of it.
Lunch was a cookout on the island so we decided to grab some grub. Afterwards, we did a little wandering, a bit of swimming, and a lot of lounging on the many hammocks scattered around the island. The weather was perfect and it was a very relaxing afternoon.
Around 4pm, we went back to the tenders and headed back to the ship. We wandered around the ship for awhile and grabbed some pizza at Sorrentos to keep us from starving before late dinner.
Tuesday night was formal night so we both got all fancied up before heading to the dining area. There were several backdrops for photos and we posed for a few before making our way into dinner. The meal was fabulous again for the most part.
Appetizer: Mike had lobster bisque that he said was good. I ordered "chilled pear" which wasn't that great - it reminded me of the grainy juice left at the bottom of a can of pears, only it also had craisins in it... The caesar salad, however, was delicious.Entree: I think we both ordered the filet of beef.
Dessert: Between the two of us, we tried 3 desserts. Cherries Jubilee, Grand Marnier Souffle, and Double Strawberry Cheesecake. So much goodness.
After dinner, we planned to stay up for the chocolate buffet at midnight but we were both too tired. Also, we knew we had an early morning in Nassau so we went to bed around 10pm.
