Cruise Day 3: Nassau

Another early morning on day 3. We had ordered room service the night before and gulped down a quick breakfast before hopping off the boat in Nassau.

That morning, we had booked a snorkeling excursion. We took a 45 minute boat ride that included a guided tour as well as equipment instruction for our snorkeling gear. Neither of us had snorkeled before and though the water was cold, we managed to have a great time feeding the fish and splashing around.

Once we returned from snorkeling, we went back to the ship to shower and grab a quick lunch at the Windjammer (yet again underwhelming).

In the afternoon, we took a ferry (which took forever to actually leave the dock and somehow involved Mike smacking his head pretty hard) over to the Atlantis Resort & Casino. We weren't there to gamble though that's a popular activity. Instead, we ended up having a private tour of "The Dig" - a representation of the lost city of Atlantis intertwined with an amazing aquarium. Our tour lasted about and hour and we took the ferry back.

Shopping in Nassau was something we were both looking forward to (see the part about buying a book on Day 1) and it turned out to be the most disappointing experience of the whole trip. We arrived around 5:15pm and all of the shops were closed. We only managed to get one of the "freebies" from our $25 book - some cheap sapphire earrings. We then rushed to the Straw Market, which we had been told be several sources was open until 7pm. Nope. It was also mostly shut down. Mike did bargain to get us couple of straw hats and we also ended up with some necklaces.

Sad that we missed out on the shopping, we did what any tourist would do - we went to the duty free and bought bottles of local liquor. We got a couple of cheap bottles of rum and then drowned our sorrows at the Hard Rock Cafe while munching on an appetizer platter.

It was dark when we made our way back through customs and onto the boat. We went to our room and got changed for dinner.

Dinner on night 3 was Italian night.

Appetizer: I had the caprese salad which was bland with no taste at all. The scallop risotto, however, was delicious. Mike's minestrone was also good.

Entree: I had rigatoni pasta and Mike had garlic tiger shrimp. Both yummy though he had a few shrimp that weren't completely deveined.

Dessert: Mike had the warm chocolate cake (mmm) and I had tiramisu. It wasn't the best I've ever had but it was still good.

Our waiters then serenaded us, which was hilarious.

After dinner, we were determined not to go to bed early. We went to the Love & Marriage show with David & Amy. It was like the Newlywed Game but with a newlywed couple, a "middle of the road" couple, and a long-time couple. The game was a riot and we had a blast.

Before going to bed, we enjoyed a couple of drinks at Boleros (bar) and watched a Latin band perform. We then sat around talking for awhile. It was around 2am when we went to sleep, knowing we'd be able to sleep in the next morning.
