Race for the Cure

Almost two years ago, my doctor found a lump in my breast as part of my annual exam. After getting a second opinion and then speaking with a surgeon, I decided to have the lump removed even though it was likely not cancerous.

This was a scary time for me. I read a lot of websites both from a technical/medical standpoint and also personal accounts of people and families who had ultimately been diagnosed with breast cancer. While I was fortunate and my lump was indeed benign, it was an eye-opening experience for me and probably the first time I had really given any thought to what breast cancer could mean to someone's life.

Last year, I was still recovering from my lump-removal surgery and could not participate in the Race for the Cure. Mike participated for both of us. This year, we will both be there. Race day is June 9th.

I'm not one to ask for cash or push a charity but I am going to add a link to my Race page. If anyone would like to make a contribution, it's definitely a worthy cause and one that means a lot to me. You can read more about what the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Race for the Cure at their site below.

We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same. -Carlos Castaneda
