New Shoes!
I pulled a muscle or something, I'm guessing during the Race though I felt really good afterwards. That brought on an uncomfortable first week where I could only run once (outside with Mike, way too early for my liking). That Thursday (the 19th) I finally went to the doctor and got some anti-inflammatory drugs for my muscle pull.
Last Sunday, Mizuno held an event at the Fleet Feet location in Raleigh off Wade Ave. They did some fancy diagnostics to determine the best kind of shoe for your foot and running style. Mike's last pair of shoes were Mizunos and they put him right back in the same pair. My last shoes were Brooks but they put me in the Wave Creations, just like Mike's. Only, smaller and more girly (see left).
(A random note - the shoes Mike tried on were red and white. All the pictures online of his shoes are red and white. His actual shoes? Orange and white. Is that like getting the Golden Ticket? Does he win something?)
This week, I hit the treadmill with the new shoes on Tuesday. It wasn't great. I'm not sure if the issue was the new shoes, still aching muscles, or not having run regularly for a couple of weeks. I had to take a couple of brief walk breaks in order to complete the run (walked 2 minutes out of 30 is all).
Last night I was able to complete 30 minutes straight, although at a slower pace. The shoes felt better so I'm going to give them another try tomorrow. I have 30 days to return them if I'm not happy with them but I want to give them a fair chance and not just freak out because they feel different. I do have a few concerns though (for example, I have flat arches and usually end up with more support than these) but we'll see what happens. Mostly, I'm just glad to be back to running again.
Such a boring entry but I wanted to document the new shoes and pulled muscles. I really rely on my blog to keep track of my running history.
If I have learned one thing in this life, it is that God will not tie my shoes without me. -Doug Boyd
